May Travels

On the last day of the semester, I will be traveling to Texas on May 14th. During my stay, I will be sharing at several churches what the Lord is doing with the Spearman family and Calvary Chapel Bible College in Lima, Peru. I will be at Calvary Baptist Church in Andrews on the 16^th, Calvary Christian Fellowship in Midland on the 19^th, Coastlands Calvary Chapel in Corpus Christi on the 22^nd and 23^rd, Calvary Chapel Dallas in Plano on the 26^th and First Baptist Church in Brownsville on the 30^th. I will be traveling with my old friend, Aaron Armstrong and we look forward to possibly spending some time with each of you. Please pray the Lord’s protection on my family while I’m away and that the He would provide our travel expenses.

Wrapping it Up

We are just about to wrap up our second semester at the Bible College. It has been a great one. The students have been awesome. We have studied Apologetics, Romans, Genesis, Revelation, Acts, Timothy, Titus, Systematic Theology and Inductive Bible Study together. It’s been an incrediably busy fourteen weeks. They also had the opportunity to go to Canta and San Bartolo, Peru during the semester.

Seventeen of them will be graduating. Twelve from the Spanish program and four from the English program. Please keep them in your prayers as they take their next step.

We have already put the schedule together for Fall 2010. We will be teaching Romans and Apologetics again, Hebrews and Corinthians. Already looking forward to it!

The Chicken

Some folks have asked me about the chicken that I mentioned in my March Newsletter. Here it is.

Men’s Retreat
We did our semester men’s retreat in Canta, Peru. Canta is about three hours northeast of Lima. It was quite a drive straight up to an elevation of 8,600 feet above sea level. Our ears popped the entire way. It was actually a little difficult to breath the first day and it was freezing! Their winter is Lima’s Summer and viceversa. That’s amazing! However, the views were absolutely unbelievable. We had a great time of sharing in the Word together, eating strange food and taking in some awesome sites.

On our way back; we passed through the tiny village of Canta and there were several ladies on horseback who were taking turns at galloping under a chicken that was tied upside down by it’s feet to a wire and trying to pull it’s head off. I’m still trying to figure out what we witnessed!


The Boys
The boys are doing well. They are growing up so fast that I wish that I could just push the “pause” button. They are very involved in the their school and the church youth group. As a matter of fact, they just returned from their High School Retreat where they helped with worship. We are so proud of them. The Lord has blessed them both with the gift of music. I could just sit and listen to them play together all day. Of course, they play the “new” stuff while everything that dear old dad plays is “old school!”


Surf Camp
There is so much going on around campus this month. It started with a mission team from CC San Diego coming down to help the church with their annual Surf Camp. There were over 300 youth involved in two separate camps for junior and senior high. The last day of camp, they had baptisms scheduled but had to evacuate because of the earthquake in Chile. The water had completely receded and it was thought to be the beginnings of a tsunami. The picture shows just how far out the water went. By the Lord’s mercies, the tsunami never came. The crazy thing is that the water is still very low around the beaches. It went somewhere and they say it’s not coming back. Needless to say, the surfers are bummed!


My Favorite Thing
I am certainly getting to teach to my heart’s content. I usually do morning devotions with the students twice a week and then also teach the evening service at CC Lima. I am also currently wrapping up a book study on Revelation and then will begin another study on the book of Genesis. February Newsletter

Spring 2010

The Spring 2010 semester started this past Monday. We are very excited to see all of the students back on campus again. Of course, the tranquility could not have lasted forever!

Their first Saturday here, we took them on a field trip to an area of Lima called Miraflores. Once there, they were able to visit one of the larger parks here called “Parque Kennedy” which is named after our very own John F. Kennedy. Afterwards, we all took a sightseeing tour on what is called the “Mirabus.” It’s a double-decker bus without a roof. There was plenty to see and the students and staff had a great time.

New Christian School

We were just recently blessed when Jannett was asked if she would be willing to help out at a local international school in exchange for the boy’s tuition. We prayed about it and took them up on it. She is now helping in the computer department and several other areas and the boys are pretty excited to be attending a “real” school again. Please pray that they would do well. The boys have been helping them with their youth ministry now for the past several months.

Mission Teams

Over the Christmas Break, we had two mission teams come in and serve with us from CC San Diego, CA. and CC Downey, CA. The team from San Diego did a Vacation Bible School on campus while the men were able to accomplish an incredible amount of repairs. They painted, installed ventilation fans in restrooms, laid tile in two dorms and the mail room, fixed several plumbing issues, and repaired some woodwork on our catwalks and lights around the campus.

Sunday Nights

With the return of the English speaking students, I am now teaching on Sunday evenings at CC Lima. The service is called “Enfoque” which means to “focus”. It is a bilingual service with the music, announcements and the message being translated into both English and Spanish. Currently, I am teaching a series of topical messages on life’s harder issues like divorce, remarriage, abortion, etc…

Valentine's Day Banquet

We had our Valentine’s Day Banquet this past Saturday. It was very well attended by many of the couples of the church and their friends. Jannett was the Master of Ceremonies and I was able to share a message on how to have a successful marriage. It was really quite easy. I just described ours! As of August, we have been married for twenty-three years.
